The Ancient Path
The Ancient Path
What is ‘The Ancient Path’, you may ask. And why do we need to take a journey on this path? Well, the answer is very simple. As I write this page in 2021, America (my home country) has become a country I barely recognize. Last year, in 2020, we saw riots and the rise of lawlessness. In some cities and states, criminals were allowed to freely steal and knew they would never face charges. Immorality is glorified, and even promoted, in movies and now in our schools.
When I was growing up in the 1960’s and 70’s, there were very few families who did not have a mother and a father in the home. Most children had a stable family unit and most families went to church on a regular basis (at least in the south where I lived).
But, little by little, much of the church turned away from the fundamental Christian teachings of family responsibilities, morality, a work ethic and ‘loving your neighbor as yourself’, as well as the spreading of the gospel. Now, our country is paying the price for the Christian principles which we abandoned. It did not happen at once, but the influence of television, movies, drugs, a godless school system and government interference, created a storm which broke apart the family, introduced immorality and destroyed the work ethic.
America was founded on Christianity, the Ten Commandments and the principles contained in the Word of God, the Holy Bible. America has already experienced at least two Great Awakenings. These were times of spiritual renewal and revival which changed the hearts of the citizens and put America on the path to spiritual greatness. America needs another Great Awakening to the Spirit of God and the truth found only in the Holy Bible. So, the Ancient Path could be described as the path which the founders of our country walked; from the Pilgrims to the revolutionaries (who would rather die than lose their religious freedom), to the leaders of the great awakenings.
The Ancient Path could also be described as the lifestyle of the first century church. Most of the members of the early Christian church were Jewish and the roots of our faith go back to the Old Testament (the Tanakh). The first century church endured persecution, and even death, just to be able to express their belief in the one true God and the belief that His son, Jesus Christ, died for their eternal salvation. The Romans were especially brutal, even burning the Christians as ‘torches’ or allowing wild beasts to kill and devour the unprotected Christians in the coliseum. This was done because the Romans believed in many gods and the Christians refused to worship their false gods. If we are forced to walk that ancient path, Christians must know and believe, that death in Christ Jesus, is preferred over life (in this world) without Him.
