Everlasting Covenant – Chapter 2

Journey on the Ancient Path: The Way of the Shepherd

Chapter 2 – Everlasting Covenant

In the second chapter of this book, the reader learns about the greatest love story ever written. An everlasting covenant was made between the God of the universe and humanity. The reader will also learn about several covenants which God has made and how they relate to the Feast of Pentecost, one of the seven Jewish feasts which God ordained.

Thought Provoking Journey:

  • God chose to use His feasts as types and shadows for future, important events. Some feasts foreshadow multiple events and some feasts point to events yet to come. For example, Pentecost (Shavuot, also known as the Feast of Oaths) represents a Covenant.
  • According to Jewish tradition, Noah’s rainbow appeared on this day (the Feast of Shavuot/Pentecost) to confirm God’s covenant to never destroy the earth by a flood again.
  • God came down on Mt. Sinai on this day (the Feast of Shavuot/Pentecost) and made an everlasting covenant with the Jewish people. This is known as the Covenant of the Law or the Covenant of the Torah.
  • The Holy Spirit was poured out on the disciples in the upper room on this day (the Feast of Shavuot/Pentecost). God made a covenant with the New Testament church; this covenant became known as the Covenant of Grace.
  • When God makes a covenant, it is everlasting on His part. But, the covenant may come with conditions; for example, Israel must be a faithful bride.
  • The Ten Commandments are found in the Bible, in Exodus 20. Hundreds of years ago, these ten rules became the basis for the legal framework implemented in the United States and other parts of the world.
