First Sacrifice – Chapter 6

Journey on the Ancient Path – The Way of the Shepherd

Chapter 6 – First Sacrifice

In this chapter, Josiah, the young shepherd boy living in Bethlehem,, must offer his pet lamb as the family’s Passover sacrifice. This sacrifice points to a time when Jesus will become the Passover lamb for all humanity.

Thought Provoking Journey:

  • Jerusalem and the Temple Mount have always been important to God. He picked out this location himself, for the events which would happen later.
  • The Temple Mount is also the location God showed to Abraham for the sacrifice of Isaac, (which God did not require). Abraham did not pick the location, God did.
  • King Solomon’s Temple, and King Herod’s Temple, were built on the same spot where Abraham offered a sacrifice, as directed by God.
  • Did God perform the first animal sacrifice, to clothe Adam and Eve, on the Temple Mount to foreshadow the future Temple sacrifices?
  • Most Christians know that Passover, and the sacrifice of the perfect lamb, foreshadowed the crucifixion of Jesus at Passover. Jesus was the Lamb of God, slain from the foundation of the world, crucified for the sins of humanity. (Revelation 13:8)
  • Passover is the first of seven feasts ordained by God. (Leviticus 23) When God ordained these annual feasts, his master prophetic timetable and clock was set in motion.
  • Each feast had a natural explanation, as well as a prophetic implication. These feasts  foreshadowed future events; these feasts were ‘pointers’ on God’s timeline. Sometimes, there were multiple, future events represented by a single feast.
